Makerversity Pre-Conference February 7, 2018

Get your tickets now! Only 20 spaces available.

Please join us for an engaging day at Amsterdam’s Makerversity. Meet professional entrepreneurs and makers, explore the Makerversity space and try your hand at making. In the morning, you’ll get a tour of our space, meet the Makerversity team, and have the opportunity to chat with a range of our members – creative professionals working across design, engineering, technology and more. We’ll discuss the maker movement, maker education in the classroom, and how that relates to real world design processes.

Later in the morning we’ll dive into the creative process with a design thinking activity, where you’ll develop ideas for imaginary products, and in the afternoon we’ll work in groups to make prototypes for the products you design, using recycled materials, our workshop tools, and some helpful advice from our members and staff.

We’ll have lunch and happy hour at the end of a busy day!

About Makerversity

Makerversity builds and supports communities of professional makers, providing co-working and co-making spaces at affordable rates. By ‘Makers’ we mean product designers, engineers, hardware startups, creative technologists, app developers, inventors, urban farmers and more. Our members are also our in-house faculty, helping to inspire the next generation of creative and practical minds through our education and employability programmes.

Makerversity started at Somerset House in London in 2013, and in 2016 our Amsterdam space opened in the Marineterrein, a former naval base now being re-developed into an innovation district. Makerversity Amsterdam is home to 60+ makers and creative startups, and has already hosted over 4000 young people, families and teachers for workshops, tours and teacher training programmes in maker education.

Meet the Makers

Duncan Gidney is a creative consultant who focuses on prototyping and UX design: fun and surprising things in the areas of music, photography and games. Duncan is a deep generalist and systems thinker who loves to see how different things interact and affect each other.

Jessica Stanley is Makerversity Amsterdam’s Learning Project Manager, working with Makerversity members to run maker education programmes for all ages. Equally enthusiastic about making, and about using making as a tool to promote equity of access to technology and education, Jessica has a background in physics, and previously ran Makeshop, a hybrid shop / workshop space at Science Gallery Dublin.

Call for presentations

Share your expertise and experiences by presenting a session at the conference. If you’re interested in presenting a one-hour session on mobile devices for learning (see strands above), send a description of your session to cdlt@isa.nl. The deadline for submitting an abstract is September 10, 2016.
