Wonder Based Education is a child led developmentally appropriate teaching method. This pedagogy was developed over the last decade by Sally Haughey, a 25-year veteran of early childhood education. Drawing on many different traditions such as Reggio-Emilia, Montessori, Waldorf and Nature schools this approach emphasizes following the child’s natural interests, rhythms, passions.
Wonder Based Teaching encompasses the heart of discovery…the way of self-discovery, a child’s discovery, and the discovery of relationships. Wonder Based Teaching doesn’t just cover the surface, it teaches you how to go deeper into your teaching practice.
Participants will learn the five-stage framework of Wonder Based Teaching and how they can integrate it into their teaching methodology. They will learn the extensive science behind this pedagogy so they can defend this form of teaching to parents and administrators. They will learn the importance of loose parts and how to facilitate deep play, which is the foundation of proto-learning.
Participants will learn how to honor the actions of children and create provocations that invoke socialization through relationships and the rise of critical thinking. This workshop will teach teachers how to interact with children in a profound new/old way that honors the desires, choices, and discoveries of children as full citizens of this world.
